100% Natural Stone Slate

What is Slate?

Slate is a type of metamorphic rock that forms when shale or other sedimentary rocks undergo changes under high pressure and temperature. Slate consists mainly of quartz, illite, and chlorite minerals, which make up to 95% of its composition. Slate usually has a dark color, a smooth texture, and a layered structure.

Slate is a popular kitchen item because of its unique features, durability, and aesthetic appeal. It is non-porous, which means it does not absorb stains and is easy to clean. It can also withstand high temperatures up to 2000 degrees Fahrenheit, so it can handle hot pots and pans without damage. Thus, it protects your tables and countertops from heat.

A One of A Kind Item

Your slate item is 100% natural stone, which makes it unique. You can expect variations in color, texture, as well as noticeable cracks and flaws. These are natural characteristics of the stone that give each item and engraving its own personality.

Food Safety

Boards are treated with a mineral oil for stone. This makes it safe for use with food items. The mineral oil is a blend of beeswax, food grade carnauba wax, mineral oil, and essential lemon and orange oils. The oil creates a tough layer of protection on your slate items while making them food safe. It also provides a non-greasy finish that prevents stains and spills, while ensuring a uniform patina.

Acrylic Spray

Slate coasters are sprayed with a protective acrylic spray to prevent water stains and make cleanup easy. However, the acrylic spray IS NOT FOOD SAFE. If you prefer, you can request the oil for stone instead of the acrylic spray at no extra charge. You can make this request in the comment box during checkout.
